Year 3 Updates
Welcome to Year 3
The Year 3 classes are Swift and Sparrow.
Our teaching team consists of Mr Pape in Swift class and Mrs Garrett (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) and Mrs Letts (Thursday and Friday) in Sparrow. In addition, Mrs Chambers, Mrs Andrews and Mrs Jarrett will be working alongside both classes providing invaluable support.
The initial focus of Year 3 will be the smooth transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2. We understand that moving to a new Key Stage can be a daunting experience for a lot of children and so our first priority will be establishing clear routines and expectations to ensure that your child feels safe and secure in their new learning environment.
Throughout the year, as a team, we will be promoting the four Meadowside Values of Resilience, Responsibility, Reflection and Respect.
- To encourage Resilience, children will be provided with strategies to promote independent learning. They will recognise their own strengths and barriers to learning and use tools and resources provided around the classroom to enable them to achieve their best and fulfil their full potential.
- To encourage Responsibility, children will be given roles within the classroom and tasks to complete at home. Now that they are entering Key Stage 2, there is a greater emphasis on children’s independence with regards to self-organisation and time management.
- To encourage Reflection, children will be given regular feedback on their work which they will be expected to independently respond to. In Year 3, we value all responses to questions but encourage children to explain their reasoning further to demonstrate deeper understanding. With regards to behaviour, children will be expected to reflect on all of their, and others’, actions and to recognise the importance of their choices.
- To encourage Respect, staff will model expected behaviour. Children will be expected to be kind to each other, to the adults in our school and to themselves and to look after our learning environment.
We strongly believe that children learn best in a calm, happy and safe environment where there is clear communication and support between home and school.
We are all looking forward to an exciting year of learning and seeing the children in Year 3 flourish.
