Intent
At Meadowside Primary School, we aim to provide children with exciting, creative and purposeful opportunities to use and develop their design and technology knowledge and skills.
Implementation
In KS1 and KS2 we have adopted the Chris Quigley milestones approach which fulfils the requirements of the National Curriculum. This provides a robust, systematic approach to learning, thus ensuring a purposefully sequenced and vocabulary rich curriculum. We give children opportunities to investigate how things work, design, make and evaluate their own work. We aim to teach children a wide range of skills and use a variety of tools and materials. Through Design & Technology activities children will become more aware of the modern world, their local community and the impact technology has on everyday life
Impact
Design and Technology aims to ensure that all pupils:
- are motivated and inspired in order to raise standards, through purposeful activities through which children achieve and gain a sense of satisfaction
- are taught the necessary progression of knowledge and key skills via the Chris Quigley Milestones to enable them to make and design quality products in all areas of Design & Technology
- are provided with opportunities to develop confidence and competence in identifying and solving practical problems, using a variety of approaches, materials and methods

- are provided with learning opportunities which encourage enquiry and nurture the development of a questioning approach
- participate in group work, share and collaborate between peers in respect of ideas and resources
- demonstrate care and respect for equipment
- develop resilience by being encouraged to be flexible and open minded when faced with challenges and opportunities
- appreciate the impact of technology on everyday life, the environment and the local community
